Field Service/Commissioning Engineer

Job Purpose:

Field Service/Commissioning Engineers provide expert technical support to an extensive customer profile which includes Luxury Yachts, Commercial Ships, Naval Platforms, and Special Purpose Craft.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, repair, and commissioning of all the company’s products in-house and at customer sites worldwide
  • Assist Systems Engineers with preparation and testing of new systems and with the preparation of technical
    proposals
  • Assist with the development and assessment of new products
  • When office based, provide support assisting customers with technical problems via email and telephone
  • Training staff and customers in products and systems

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Excellent interpersonal skills – able to communicate well (via email and telephone) with customers
  • Able to work under pressure to achieve deadlines
  • A team player, yet also capable of demonstrating initiative and working unsupervised
  • Lone worker ethic; able to identify needs/requirements and make productive and efficient use of both time and resources
  • Competent in computer technology and Ethernet networks
  • Able to diagnose faults and resolve issues using own initiative
  • Capable of writing /amending computer mimics
  • Cash/expense Management
  • Capable and confident to train staff and customers in our products and systems

Systems Engineer

Job Purpose:

The Systems Engineer is responsible for specifying and designing systems and taking responsibility for the engineering component of these systems, through to testing, commissioning, and customer handover.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assume technical lead for projects in addition to supporting other Systems, and Lead Project Engineers on all other company projects
  • Produce Functional Design Specifications from customer specifications
  • Produce block diagrams, system schematics, bill of materials and cable schedules
  • Program PLC, HMI & SCADA Systems
  • Produce technical documentation, including manuals and test procedures
  • Assist with internal and customer Factory Acceptance Tests
  • Travel worldwide to commission systems on board all types of vessels
  • Conduct Harbour and Sea Acceptance Trials through to customer handover
  • Attend meetings with customers and other departments on and off site
  • Assist with the development and assessment of new products
  • Follow schedules and tasks assigned by the Systems Engineering Manager

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of P&ID Drawings and PLC and SCADA based software packages
  • Ability to work well within a team whilst at the same time demonstrating initiative and the ability to work without supervision
  • Solid problem solving, decision making and analytical capabilities
  • Attention to detail
  • Competent in computer technology and Ethernet networks
  • CAD software, preferably Visio and E-Plan Electric P8
  • HNC / Degree Level in either Electronic Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering
  • Controls, Automation, Electrical and Electronics System Integration
  • Structured programming languages
  • Industrial communication protocols e.g. Modbus, Canbus & Profibus
  • PLC programming using IEC 61131-3 programming languages
  • Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi and Wago PLCs
  • Marine ship systems including automation, power, propulsion, navigation, and communications

HMI Design Engineer

Job Purpose:

The HMI Design Engineer is responsible for specifying and designing HMI software and taking responsibility for the developing style guide documentation and common software objects for project applications.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand a variety of end-client provided information such as P&IDs and Signal lists to create clear and concise HMI pages for operator control.
  • Interact directly with the end-client during the HMI development phase to understand needs and requirements and resolve technical issues.
  • Take on responsibility for further development of HMI object libraries, from front end graphical interface to underlying code using in-house developed SCADA software.
  • Manage the revision control of object libraries and implement systems recording their use

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Automation and Control Systems, preferably in the marine industry
  • HMI and Automation standards and guidelines such as ISA-101 and ISO9241
  • Experience with developing HMIs from the ground up in a variety of industry standard SCADA packages.
  • Good understanding of reading and interpreting system documentation such as P&IDs and signal lists.
  • Ability to implement basic control logic using Structured Text programming
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with others on team projects and deliverables.
  • Produce detailed documentation describing control and monitoring functionality provided by the HMI
  • HNC or Degree Level in a Controls/Software Engineering subject
  • SCADA systems including knowledge of operating PLC’s
  • Automation system testing
  • PLC programming using IEC 61131-3 programming languages
  • Marine ship systems including automation, power, propulsion, navigation, and communications
