Rolls-Royce modernizes ship automation of Armas’ fast ferry “Volcán De Tirajana”

Rolls-Royce has equipped a second vessel of Spanish shipping company Naviera Armas with a ServoCore Alarm & Monitoring System (AMS). Servowatch, the company Rolls-Royce acquired in December 2020, replaced the ageing legacy system on Armas’ fast catamaran vessel “Volcán De Tirajana” to adapt the ship automation to the current requirements. “This marks a new era in our relationship. Working in UK national lockdown in uncertain times and remotely with Aeromarine SA, Servowatch’s sales and service partner in Spain, this project demonstrates our ability to serve customers successfully in a pandemic” Wayne Ross, Servowatch’s Managing Director, says.

Servowatch designed and built a custom fitted replacement AMS and Aeromarine removed the old system, installed the new ServoCore system and commissioned it on time and in budget allowing the vessel to return to operational service between the Canary Islands as scheduled. This mid-life upgrade will ensure the vessel has minimal complications, ease of operation and supportability for many years to come.

Functionality and features of the system installed on “Volcán De Tirajana” including local intelligent remote terminal units, graphical operator workstations, system interface panels, auxiliary auto control as well as WINMONTM software, and is DNV-GL approval.

Servowatch has extensive knowledge of refitting engineered AMS replacement systems and together with Aeromarine’s expertise and tremendous support from the Volcán De Tirajana crew, both companies completed the installation with a minimal fuss and met the deadlines of the owners.

Naveria Armas’s Technical Manager, Raúl Morante Gonzalo says “the Servowatch AMS was delivered, installed and commissioned efficiently with minimal disruption to our service. This new system has modernized our vessel and extended its operating life well into the future. The ships’ crew and I are very happy with the support and assistance that Aeromarine and Servowatch provided”.

Aeromarine’s Service Manager, Calvin Smith “It was a pleasure to work on the Volcán De Tirajana project and install and commission the complete Servowatch system as a turn-key solution for the customer’’.

Servowatch provides a range of turnkey solutions to meet customers’ needs for both mid-life upgrades and new buildings. These include basic AMS to complex IPMS encompassing all aspects of platform management.
